Frontline Workers in NYC Face Uphill Battle for Workers Comp After Contracting COVID-19 – amNY

Private ambulance crews can collect Workers Compensation if they contract Covid-19 on the job, and they don't have positively prove they caught it on the job.

Many New York healthcare workers have gotten COVID-19 from patients in their care, yet some employers are discouraging them from seeking workers compensation benefits, according to amNY.

The recent story says the employees’ benefits would come from insurance companies many of whom have stashed billions in profits from the private workers comp system over the years.

The story adds that many people don’t know they qualify for workers comp and that some employees are being told by their bosses to use sick time and file for disability payments – which can take up to a year.

“Frontline healthcare workers are to be praised and supported for their essential work, not penalized by employers who fear higher insurance premiums,” said John Dalli, a partner in the law firm Dalli & Marino, LLP.

“New York state law protects these employees during this critical time and helps them pay household and medical expenses if they became ill and were unable to work. An experienced attorney can help them get the benefits they’re entitled to.”
