Dalli & Marino is proud to announce that founding partner John Dalli will serve as a faculty member at the New York City Bar Association’s Medical Malpractice Conference 2026 on Monday, October 26, 2026. John will speak during a session devoted to long-term care litigation, bringing nearly two decades of focused nursing home litigation experience to an audience of attorneys, judges, and healthcare industry leaders.
John’s invitation to participate reflects his standing as an experienced nursing home abuse attorney and trial lawyer, as well as his ongoing commitment to helping other attorneys better understand the legal and practical issues that arise when vulnerable residents are harmed in long-term care facilities.
What Is the NYC Bar Medical Malpractice Conference?
The Medical Malpractice Conference 2026 is a full-day continuing legal education program focused on developments and practical strategies in medical malpractice litigation. The program will bring together attorneys from both the plaintiff and defense bars, along with acting and retired judges and professionals responsible for managing risk within major New York healthcare institutions.
That range of perspectives is part of what distinguishes the conference from many other medical malpractice CLE programs, which are often designed primarily for either plaintiffs’ attorneys or defense counsel. By placing lawyers from both sides of the courtroom on the same faculty, the City Bar is creating an opportunity for a more complete discussion of how medical malpractice and long-term care cases are investigated, evaluated, defended, negotiated, and tried.
The conference also includes perspectives from professionals working directly within healthcare systems. Nancy Block, Associate General Counsel and Director of Litigation Management, Malpractice, at NYU Langone Health, and Alfred Vigorito, Chief Risk Officer at Westchester Medical Center Health Network, will participate in a panel on mediation and alternative dispute resolution. Their involvement gives attendees insight into how some of New York’s largest medical institutions approach litigation and risk management.

- Updates to New York’s Pattern Jury Instructions and jury interrogatories
- Medical malpractice appellate review
- Mediation and alternative dispute resolution
- Presenting and defending damages at trial
What Will John Speak About During the Conference?
John will speak during the “Long Term Care Litigation” session from 2:35 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. He will appear alongside Steven D. Weiner of Kaufman Borgeest & Ryan LLP, whose practice includes the defense of nursing homes and other aging-services providers.
The pairing reflects the conference’s broader effort to include both plaintiff and defense perspectives. John will bring the experience of an attorney who represents nursing home residents and their families, while Weiner will approach the subject from the defense side. That structure allows for a more substantive examination of the issues that shape these cases and the different ways the parties may interpret the same medical records, facility policies, witness testimony, and evidence concerning a resident’s care.
Long-term care litigation occupies a particularly complex place within medical malpractice and personal injury law. A case may require attorneys to examine months or years of clinical records, determine whether a facility followed a resident’s care plan, evaluate compliance with state and federal regulations, and distinguish an unavoidable medical decline from an injury caused by inadequate care.
These cases also concern residents who may be unable to describe what happened because of dementia, illness, or other impairments. Attorneys must therefore know how to reconstruct the resident’s care through medical records, electronic data, staffing information, facility policies, witness accounts, and expert testimony.
John Brings Decades of Experience Representing Nursing Home Residents and Their Families
John has litigated complex personal injury and medical malpractice cases since 1996. Since 2007, he has focused much of his practice on cases involving elder abuse and nursing home negligence.
During that time, John has handled hundreds of cases involving residents who suffered pressure injuries, falls, dehydration, medication errors, sexual abuse, and other forms of preventable harm. He has tried cases involving nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospitals accused of failing to provide care consistent with state and federal requirements.
His recent work includes a case in which John and Dalli & Marino attorney Anthony M. Chionchio obtained a $5.5 million jury verdict for the estate of a nursing home resident who died after developing a severe pressure injury. The resident’s chart appeared to show that staff had provided required turning, repositioning, toileting, and skin assessments. By obtaining and analyzing the metadata behind the facility’s electronic records, however, our attorneys uncovered evidence that care had been documented before it supposedly occurred or days after the fact.
That type of investigation illustrates the experience John brings to the City Bar conference. Nursing home cases cannot always be evaluated by accepting the written chart at face value. Attorneys must understand how facilities create and maintain their records, what care should have been provided, and how to identify inconsistencies between the documentation and the resident’s actual condition.
