After a five year Department of Justice Investigation, The DOJ unsealed a lawsuit on February 16, 2017.  UnitedHealth Group and affiliated health plans are accused of overcharging Medicare by hundreds of millions of dollars and possibly billions. The suit alleges that the plans were claiming that patients were sicker than they really were. It alleges that UnitedHealth has inflated its plan members’ risk scores since 2006 or earlier in order to boost payments received under the Medicare Advantage’s risk adjustment program.
