After a 70-year-old rehabilitation patient died from sepsis caused by an untreated sacral pressure injury, we used electronic medical record metadata to prove the nursing home was falsely charting care it never provided. A unanimous jury deliberated just 45 minutes before awarding her estate $5.5 million for violations of the New York State Public Health Law, conscious pain and suffering, and wrongful death.
